Fraser Island is one of the (what do we say? one? we mean THE) biggest sand island in the world.
You can find Fraser Island on the Eastern Queensland coast and stretches over more than 120 km long. Backpackers have been travelling to this island for years and years to view all the amazing nature the island has to offer.
What does Fraser Island have to offer? just to name 'a few': freshwater lakes, rainforests, dingo's, 120 km beach highway, huge sand dunes, cliffs of coloured sand, the iconic Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby lakes and not to forget the Maheno shipwreck.
You can spend one day here up to as long as you want. There are tours leaving from the mainland for 1 day, 2 days or 3 day tours.
Whether you are driving/travelling to Hervey Bay, Rainbow Beach or Noosa, there will be a tour available from those spots. Most popular is the self-drive safari, where you will be (with others in the car) in a convoy of jeeps driving on the island. You will have a tourguide in one of the cars, so you will have someone experienced (who knows the tides, the dangers, the magnificant spots, and who knows how to cook you an amazing bbq) with you along the way. These self-drive safaris are a minimum of 3 days.
If you are not sure if you want to drive, or if you don't have your license, no worries, you can still go on the trip and have other people drive you.
Another option is a guided tour, where you will be in a group with your tourguide/driver. These trips start from 1 day.
Of course you can also rent your own 4WD and drive yourself on the island. You will get information on camping, the island and where to (and not to) go.
