Drive south via the Gold Coast, stopping at Burleigh Heads for a swim. Reach Byron Bay in the afternoon. Leave early to beat Gold Coast traffic. Burleigh Heads has a short national park walk with beach views. Byron Bay has cafes and a lighthouse walk to the most easterly point of mainland Australia.
