Adelaide to Meningie
🚐 About 2 hours (around 160 km)
Pick up your van, stock up at the Central Market and head south-east over the Adelaide Hills to Murray Bridge. Follow the Princes Highway down to the Coorong, a long ribbon of lagoon and dunes, and stop at Meningie on Lake Albert. Most of the day is easy driving, so leave late morning and take your time in the Hills. Buy fresh produce and cheese at the Central Market before you go, since the Coorong has few shops. Meningie has a bakery and a pub for dinner, and the lake is calm enough for an evening walk.
Optional things to do
- Hahndorf for a German bakery stop in the Hills
- Pelican watching on the Coorong shoreline
- Short Coorong 4WD or boat tour if you have time
Where to stay
A simple park right on the lake with powered sites for campervans and a good sunset spot.
Basic sites such as Parnka Point and 42 Mile Crossing, best for self-sufficient vans. Check access and fees with the park.
